Been a few indie games I would've purchased (and probably played elsewhere) but finished 100 from Gamepass, so no reason to go back and purchase now. Time will tell.įollow me on Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. How is Microsoft BUYING UP 3rd party day one on Gamepass any different to exclusivity periods, it the same thing in trying to sway players to one ecosystem over the other. Making good use of DualSense and with a fun combat system once we have access to the entire set of spells, Forspoken tells us an interesting story with some plot twist and different endings. Each unit sale for HFR is less than half the revenue, plus Steam version is competing against the gamepass sub version on PC. I’m expecting that to be a little more divisive than Hi-Fi Rush, but I’m not expecting it to fall on its face like Forspoken clearly has here either. Forspoken is a semi-open world RPG that will invite us to explore Athia with Frey, a New Yorker who will have to fix that place in order to return to hers. Square Enix and developer Luminous Productions unveiled 'Forspoken' under the working title 'Project Athia.' In a brief sizzle reel for the PlayStation 5 console looking at new and upcoming games, the companies revealed that the entry wont come to other consoles for a minimum of 24 months after launch. For now, it’ll do us well to wait and see. We can only hope that Square and Luminous follow the one-game pattern that they currently have. While it is very likely, that is far from a guarantee. The next biggest exclusive to arrive from either PlayStation or Xbox is Arkane’s Redfall, the Xbox/PC release out May 2. Forspoken doesnt open up for several chapters, but once it does, youll confront the four Tantas, a powerful group of matriarchs that rule each of Athias regions. There has been no official sign that Forspoken will come to the Game Pass. Play hundreds of high-quality games on console, PC, and cloud. Hi-Fi Rush, meanwhile, will almost certainly get a sequel greenlit after this kind of performance, a coup from Tango Gameworks and its veteran talent. Get your first month for 1, then 16.99/mo. So, what does this mean for both brands? Well, Square Enix isn’t done yet in 2023, given that they have Final Fantasy XVI to release this summer, and few are believing that’s going to be some sort of giant misstep from them. Forspoken, meanwhile, is “Mixed,” only 57% positive on Steam. In addition to these lofty Steam sales, Hi-Fi Rush boasts a 98% “Overwhelmingly Positive” user reviews, based on confirmed purchases. But it’s a far cry from the near-universal praise that Hi-Fi Rush is getting from both critics and fans. The highest praise I’ve heard for it is that “it’s better than people are saying,” and combat can actually be pretty fun if you play it right. It could have been a huge title, as it certainly had the resources behind that to make that happen, but instead it feels like a cautionary tale. At this point, I think it’s safe to declare not just a critical miss with rather low review scores, but a likely financial flop as well for Square Enix. ![]()
